Speight's Brewery Heritage Tour

The SPEIGHT'S® Brewery is a Dunedin icon and the tour is a must-see for any visit to the south. Share the many fascinating facts and stories behind this famous New Zealand beer from both technical and historical angles. Tours wouldn't be complete without the chance to taste the range of beers brewed by SPEIGHT'S®. These are served in our private Heritage Bar with each beer given a full description as you sample. Peruse the SPEIGHT'S® Shop for souvenirs and some great southern merchandise.

Taieri Gorge Railway
A visit to Dunedin is not complete without a trip on the Taieri Gorge Railway - one of the world's great train trips. Only accessible by rail, the gorge boasts spectacular scenery, wild ever-changing landscapes, towering viaducts and a wealth of history. With a live commentary, sightseeing stops and a fully licensed snack bar, this is an all-weather experience not to be missed.

Otago Goldfields Heritage Trust
The Otago Goldfields Heritage Trust offers a year-round attraction for people to appreciate the golden heritage of the Otago region, in the South Island of New Zealand. Visit this trail site to find out all about goldpanning, goldmining history, pioneering history, historical sites, travelling information and how to find some of these interesting and special places in Otago New Zealand.

The romance and adventure of the gold rush days is easy to recapture in this rugged landscape which still bears the signs of the goldminers’ struggles to win their fortunes by striking it RICH. Many New Zealand families can trace their first connection with New Zealand from these early endeavours.

Olveston House
Share a living treasure in this authentic and well presented historic house. Olveston is an elegant expression of one man's dream. A tour of Olveston allows an intimate glimpse of the lifestyle of a privileged family in the early 1900s. Built between 1904 and 1906 the Jacobean style, grace and grandeur of Olveston is distinguished by a wealth of decorative detail. It possessed a service lift linking all four storeys. The house was centrally heated and had an internal telephone system. Seven servants were employed to service 35 rooms and to manicure the beautiful garden. The house is sited in the inner city and is within walking distance from the city centre.

Otago Settlers Museum 
The Settlers Museum tells the stories of the people who have lived and who live in Dunedin today. People have come from all corners of the earth to settle in Dunedin. From Southern Maori to Scottish pioneers and Chinese miners, Dunedin is a place of staunch individuals and vibrant communities.

Oceana Gold Tours

Otago Museum and Discovery World
Otago Museum is one of New Zealand’s oldest museums. It houses excellent displays of Maori and Pacific heritage, especially southern Maori culture. Also, Discovery World – the hands-on science centre and changing exhibitions in the Special Exhibitions Gallery. 'Southern Land – Southern People’ is the icon gallery of the Otago Museum.

Larnach Castle
New Zealand's only castle fully furnished and restored. 

The Castle is still privately owned and cared for by the Barker family who celebrated their 40th anniversary at the castle in 2007. This superbly crafted building with magnificent architecture showcases a unique collection of New Zealand antiques, with a tragic and scandalous history. Spectacular tower views and beautiful gardens complete this enjoyable award winning experience. Boutique lodge accommodation is available in the castle gardens. Weddings, balls, functions and celebrations are held in the beautiful 3000 square foot Ballroom.

Glenfolloch Woodland Garden and Resaurant
Located on Otago Peninsula, Glenfalloch – Gaelic for hidden valley – was first settled in 1871 and now offers stunning walks through native flora and fauna nestled beside the stunning Otago Harbour.

Enjoy sumptuous dining at Glenfalloch's café, Historic Homestead or modern Swiss style chalet, in amongst a spectacular bush-land setting.

Hocken Library, University of Otago
A Library, archives and art museum, relating to the history and culture of New Zealand, and the Pacific. The Library has collections of books, newspapers, periodicals, archives, photographs, pictures, published music and many genealogical sources.

Founded in 1910 through the gift of Dr. T.M. Hocken. Administered in trust for the people of new Zealand by the University of Otago.
